British period drama 'Bridgerton' breaks record by becoming biggest Netflix series with more than 84 Million household streams.
British period drama 'Bridgerton' has become Netflix’s biggest series ever with more than 82 million users stream to watch the show, Netflix has announced. This is 19M streams higher than the four-week projection Netflix issued 10 days into the Shondaland series’ run (63 million), at the time the streaming platform's fifth-biggest launch in history.
The historical series which keeps up to be an outrage is now has become Netflix’s biggest series ever, by bringing down the previous record-holding series The Witcher (76M streams in first 28 days) to second place.
Fabricated by Shondaland veteran, Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton is ruling on number one in all in 83 countries including the US, UK, Pakistan, India, and South Africa, and made the top 10 in every country excluding Japan, Netflix announced in a blogpost. The period drama is based on Julia Quinn’s novels of the same name. The first season followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) as it was her debut in Regency London, looking for a loving soul-mate.
Critics say that the series’ timing has played an important role in its outstanding success. The series released amid the latest deadly COVID-19 peak with people in many countries bone-tired after spending months in quarantine.
“I think the series truly provides an unbelievable escape for audiences at a time where that’s exactly what’s needed,” Van Dusen said last week when the series Season 2 renewal was announced. ”Bridgerton is posh, vibrant, steamy Regency love story; it is about romance, love, and joy; I think all of those things are undoubtedly all-embracing themes people are responding to.”
